Me and My Cars

My own car is a 1988 (F reg) Austin Metro. I call it an Austin Metro but by the time this one was made it was owned by the Rover group and doesn't have any company name on it at all.

It is a 1.3L Automatic, the engine is of course one of the magnificent 'A' series, 1275cc single carb bog standard issue putting out 60bhp of pure muscle. The 4 speed auto box is actually fitted inside the sump and shares the engine oil.

The pictures below shows it in all its glory, as you can see it is red and the bodywork is in remarkably good condition for a British car of its age.

I got this car in a part exchange with one of my previous cars, a Toyota Carina II ('88). In the end i paid the equivalent of £50 for the car, and with £80 worth of work, she was back on the road and has been reliable ever since.

Watch this space! New metro may be arriving soon

 Update 13/09/02

New Metro has arrived in the shape of a 1987 white MG Metro Turbo in need of some love and attention, engine is running fine and has only covered 60,000 miles

Here are some pictures I have taken since I stripped the interior out of the car to check the condition. I found that both front footwells had a wedge of newspaper underneath the carpet which were completely soaked. There are a few rusty holes in and around that area but overall I was pleasantly surprised, I came across a leak from the top of the boot so the car is now going to be garaged until the sun comes back out and I can get some welding done!
